Effects + Experience: 43/50
Sour Kush is a potent indica, courtesy of DNA Genetics. Beginners beware, this strain may not be for you. I found the couch-lock effects to be strong with this strain. Sour Kush put me in that YouTube spiral of procrastination. It’s kind of like when you’re watching a short video profiling olympic downhill skiiers, and then 40 bear encounters and an hour of America’s Got Talent “Golden Buzzer Moments” later, you still haven’t moved from the couch. The Caryophyllene and Limonene terpene profile makes Sour Kush a great medicinal strain. It would be good for general pain relief, but I find it great for nausea and stress/anxiety relief. I had to deduct a few points as I don’t find this to be a very functional strain. I should note that while Sour Kush does pack a heavy couch-lock feeling, it doesn’t wind down to an overwhelming tiredness. I wouldn’t suggest it for daily daytime use, but it won’t put you right to sleep either.

Sight, Touch, Taste & Smell: 32/40
Sour Kush buds are medium-sized and earthy green with dark orange pistils that are almost furry. The dense buds are littered with trichomes, giving Sour Kush a moist, bouncy feel (think those Banana Marshmallow candies that seniors buy in bulk). While there is a balanced moistness, the buds aren’t so wet that they leave a lingering scent on your hands after handling. The earthy, citrus scent hits you when you first open the container. While the scent is quite nice, I don’t feel that Sour Kush has the unique or “special” scent profile that I expected it to have. Like most strains, Sour Kush tastes much better when vaped. I was pleasantly surprised by the grapefruit taste after firing Sour Kush up in the vaporizer, considering that it is more earthy tasting when smoked.

In a blind smell test, I rated Sour Kush third out of four strains (Sour TangieBirds EyeSour Kush, and TWD Lot #2). That’s not to say that this strain doesn’t have a nice profile – it was just up against tough competition!

Cost: 7/10
At 9 dollars per gram, DNA Genetics has given Sour Kush a good and competitive price point for this strong, reliable indica.

What I like:
+ The balance of cerebral and body effects is really nice. A true medicinal strain.
+ It has a nice terpene profile and is clearly grown well. Just look at that macro shot.
+  The moisture balance of the buds make this a great strain to vaporize. When heated in my Volcano, the thick vapour tastes sweet and sour – like a grapefruit.

What I don’t like:
– It’s not stimulating. Don’t plan to get much done after using this strain. It was honestly a struggle to get this review done.
– While I would consider this to be a great medicinal strain, it is not at all approachable for beginners. Users would need to have an increased tolerance to THC to benefit from the medicinal values of this strain and be able to go on with their day.
